The soon to be wife can ask whatever she wants as mehr but in my place the girls don’t ask anything, the guys just give whatever they want.
The father though gives the daughter gold and land .
In my place men don’t ask women for dowry and men stay in their wives family home after marriage.
The husband thoguh is treated as a king, the mother in law makes whatver he wants amd stuff.

In Hindu weddings its the opposite. Guys ask for dowry although its not very common today

Dude, the girls here don’t ask for dowry.
It’s not part of our culture to do so.
Neither do the groom.
We follow a matrilineal culture basically. That’s cuz in the whole of kerala, my district was the only one with a Muslim king ( arrakal kingdom) and most of us are Muslims here.The kingdom followed a matrilineal culture.
