i guess someone who has been death for a fairly long period of time and has some form of notoriety, but i mean in general context i don't think a serial killer would be considered a "historical figure" except for jack the ripper or somethingWhat qualifies as a "historical figure"? Anybody that's existed in human history that has a Wikipedia page? I mean, if I say some serial killer from the 1500s is that a historical figure? I can't really provide an answer to that. If I do something stupid that makes me famous and then die, I'm also a historical figure a hundred years from now, just not the most consequential historically.
Is Innocenzo Ciocchi Del Monte a historical figure? Nobody's ever heard of him including me, even though I just mentioned him. But is that not notoriety? He was the nephew of a 16th-century pope of which you've never heard of either. In fact, let's just take an example: is every single one of the 266 popes that have existed a historical figure? I mean, being pope is pretty relevant, but most of them had little significance as far as world history, and certainly nobody that isn't a Catholic fundamentalist has ever heard of 90% of them.i guess someone who has been death for a fairly long period of time and has some form of notoriety, but i mean in general context i don't think a serial killer would be considered a "historical figure" except for jack the ripper or something
Also, what qualifies as having some form of notoriety? If you killed someone and you have some random guy write an article about you 500 or 700 years after you died, with your name being immortalized for prosperity in the Internet, despite you dying centuries before, at a time where 99.9% of people who were alive died forgotten and will never be heard from again, just having some random guy know you existed half a century later is pretty significant as I see it. Even if you're known for a silly reason, if 500, 1000, 2000, or even more years later people know you existed, that's pretty significant to me. I mean, that's more than 99.99% of human beings that have ever existed.i guess someone who has been death for a fairly long period of time and has some form of notoriety, but i mean in general context i don't think a serial killer would be considered a "historical figure" except for jack the ripper or something
if i had to give a broad definition of a historical figure i'd say someone from the past who is well known or popular and had some sort of effect on the time period they were aliveIs Innocenzo Ciocchi Del Monte a historical figure? well their effect on history is what qualifies their notoriety, ted bundy is more known than some historical figures but he still wouldn't be seen as oneAlso, what qualifies as having some form of notoriety? What is "well known or popular"? Cai Lun is one of the most consequential people in human history, but if I didn't tell you he's the guy that invented paper, you'd have to look him up. Nobody's ever heard of him.if i had to give a broad definition of a historical figure i'd say someone from the past who is well known or popular and had some sort of effect on the time period they were alive
I mean, the caveman that discovered fire and the one that invented the wheel are very influential but no one's ever heard of them. So if you go by influence, there's historical figures that literally zero people have ever heard of, because nobody knows who they are.well their effect on history is what qualifies their notoriety, ted bundy is more known than some historical figures but he still wouldn't be seen as one
well that proves my point, he did something meaningful but he is not well known, if you asked the average joe top 20 historical figures he wouldn't even be closeWhat is "well known or popular"? well it depends on who your asking, some people are famous and most people don't even know what they did, mother teresa for example, growing up i heard about here a lot and i never even knew what she didI mean, the caveman that discovered fire and the one that invented the wheel are very influential but no one's ever heard of them.
